About the Redding Boys & Girls Club…
Mission:
Our Mission is to provide an opportunity for boys and girls to participate equally, regardless of skill level, in athletic, cultural, social and leadership programs in a wholesome and safe environment.
History:
Since 1939, the Jesse P. Sanford Boys & Girls Club of Redding has served tens of thousands of children in rewarding sports, recreation, social, and educational programs.
Jesse P. Sanford, a former judge, Redding First Selectman and community leader, founded the Club in 1939 for the purpose of providing safe, supervised recreation for the children of Redding. Incorporated as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization in the 1940s, the Club acquired approximately eight acres of open fields on Cross Highway near Black Rock Turnpike, where sports activities have been held since the early 1900s. Responding to increasing needs in the 1950's, the Club built a Clubhouse that stood until destroyed by fire in 1996. In 2003, completely new facilities were opened, including a barn which houses an office, snack bar, and equipment storage, and a pavilion with picnic tables -- a great place to watch a game, or stay out of the sun or rain.
In 2005 and 2006, we took our programs to a new level, establishing cooperative extensions at Redding Elementary School and Phoenix Academy in Easton.
Five Core Areas:
The Redding Boys & Girls Club is an affiliate of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America www.bgca.org , which focuses its programs in five core areas:

Governance and Staffing:
The Redding Boys & Girls Club is governed by a Board of Directors made up of members of the Redding community. Full-time staff currently includes an Executive Director (Carlos Collazo) and seasonal part-time staff. In addition, scores of parents each year provide invaluable volunteer assistance and supervision in the form of coaching, organizing special events, and serving on committees.
Funding:
As a private, non-profit, tax-exempt, 501 (c)(3) organization, the Club is funded by a combination of program fees and donations from individuals and companies. In addition, the Club receives program grants through the National Boys & Girls Clubs of America when available and applicable to its program needs.
